About This Site

CarolinaDingo.com started the way most good dog things do: with a dog. Ours is Panda, a Carolina Dog — a breed so rare that when people meet her, the first question is usually “what is she?”

The answer turned out to be one of the best stories in the dog world: a naturally evolved American landrace, possibly descended from the continent's first dogs, discovered living wild in the southeastern swamps within living memory. We built this site to tell that story, to share what we've learned about living with a primitive breed, and to help more people recognize and appreciate these dogs — especially the many Carolina Dog mixes waiting in southern shelters.
